Transportation

Modes of transportation have changed in York due to a combination of resource scarcity and concerns about wild magic corrupting those vehicles (note: these are not necessarily legitimate concerns).

Driving:
Driving as a mode of transportation is no longer feasible, due to York's inability to marshal enough gasoline for everyone to be able to do so. Out of concerns for public safety and to conserve space, the Ministry of Inner York moved all of the cars into the old site of the Fulford Golf Club which remains now an automobile graveyard.

Bicycles:
Bicycling has taken the place of the automobile for the most part. It is not uncommon to walk into a house and see bicycles mounted on the wall to conserve space.

Walking:
Pretty much the most popular way to get anywhere, for obvious reasons.

Trains:
While the trains still exist and are housed in part of the railway station, they are no longer running. The government secretly estimates that there is enough coal remaining in reserves for one final run on the trains to take them a short distance. As such, both coal reserves and trains are heavily guarded.

Apparation/Floo:
Either one of these modes of magical transportation are only used in times of great need. When one Apparates or Floos, one doesn't know where they'll turn up or even if they'll make it there. Wizards who Apparate have been known to simply… disappear.
