Series

When the Wind Blows uses a new journal game concept known as "series play." Below we have provided a brief explanation of how we think this play will work. This is an idea that the moderators are fiddling with and we reserve the right to change or edit this upon taking into account game changes and player feedback.

Series: The Basics

One of the greatest problems in Potterverse style gaming is the average length of a game. The factor that typically contributes to short-lived gaming experiences is the general period of seasonal hiatuses that occur during holidays and university finals' periods. This is commonly when games fall apart or when they lose momentum. All games have these periods of low energy - what we, as moderators, would like to do is use them to reenergize.

A series, in our sense of the word then, is a game based around the idea that an RPG can use some of the same ideas as a television series. Each "season" will denote a period of time in which there is an overarching theme and many plots (though by no means all) will interact with and engage in that theme. The first season of When the Wind Blows will center around the theme What is Truth? The themes for subsequent seasons will develop based on concepts in play and player feedback. Taking a pause between seasons gives players the option of dropping characters that do not work for them and changing ideas and focuses, while giving new players a chance to come into the game at a start rather than a middle.

Rough Schedule for Seasons

Series 1: July to December
Series 2: mid-January to mid-May
Series 3: June to mid-December

Sweeps

As part of series play, each season will also have a period called "sweeps" that will occur at a midpoint in the season. This period will be an optional time for players where they can play out RPs that are over the top and the mods will stage some form of fun group event during this time as well.
