Relationships with each: Ashley is very close to his family, and always has been. He was his mother's "petit prince" growing up, and was spoiled by both parents. His sister was born just before his 8th birthday, and while he initially resented her, he eventually realized that she wasn't going to go away, and so decided he might as well get used to her. As she got older, he became more protective of her, and would frequently send her little gifts while he was away at school. Now that his mother and sister are in France, unable to return to England, and his father is (to his knowledge) still trapped in London, he misses his family more than even he thought he would.

Personal Life

Personality: He is generally warm, friendly, outgoing, and sometimes a little too trusting. He's gotten a little more serious in the past year, as he's had to make his way through life on his own and by his own wits, but still manages to keep a relatively cheery disposition. He is loyal and determined, but can be stubborn, and hard to dissuade once he has decided he's going to do something.

Marital status: Married to Graham Pritchard-Brown

Strengths: loyal, determined, tries very hard to be a good friend, is good at picking up new languages, did very well in Ancient Runes and Arithmancy in school.

Weaknesses: overly trusting, not good at Charms or Transfiguration (or really anything involving a wand), can be stubborn and hard to deter from doing this his way even when his way doesn't make sense.

Boggart: A cage.

Patronus: He has never successfully cast the Patronus Charm.

Aesthetics

Appearance: With a slight build and fine features, Ash is more pretty than handsome. He is aware of how people look at him, and both plays on this and hates it, depending on the situation. He is stronger than he looks, with long, lean, wiry muscles. He has a few minor scars, mostly on his legs from accidents on his bicycle that weren't able to be properly healed. There is also a small scar on his abdomen from a particularly vicious altercation where he was luckily only nicked by a blade before managing to escape from a gang of toughs looking to shake him down for what tiny amount of money he had, early on in his travels. His ears are pierced, and one has been gauged so that with certain earrings in it, you can see through his earlobe. He also has a few tattoos that he has gotten along the way, which he hopes make him look tougher.

Style of dress: He likes fashion, and fine fabrics, and getting dressed up. He likes for people to notice him, and what he's wearing. Recently, though, he's worn pretty much whatever he can get his hands on that isn't falling apart. He hates wearing dirty clothes, and will go out of his way to wash things, even when traveling.

History

Ashley, usually called Ash, is the son of Liam Brown and Madeleine Folliot. Liam was a member of the Department of International Magical Cooperation. While on an assignment in France, a few years out of school, he met Madeleine Folliot, who had recently graduated from Beauxbatons. They connected immediately, and were married a year later. They settled in Oxford, England, but made frequent trips back to France to visit Madeleine's family. They waited another couple of years before having a child, wanting to make sure that they were well established before bringing a baby into their lives.

Ashley Gaultier Folliot-Brown was born on June 19, 1990. He was an only child for the first seven years of his life, and was his mother's "petit prince." He was spoiled, given pretty much anything he wanted, and while he wasn't a complete brat about it, he did get rather used to being the center of their attention, and getting his way. For the most part, he was sheltered from the war. He knew that his parents were concerned about something happening out in the world, and particularly that his father was worried about his Aunt Lavender, who was away at school, which is where something bad was happening. However, he was far more concerned about the fact that his mother was expecting another child than something happening far and away off in Scotland.

His sister Lily Genevieve Folliot-Brown was born May 7, 1998, only days after the final battle at Hogwarts. At first he resented his younger sister, and the fact that she ate up his parents' time and attention, but in time he got used to it. He spent more time playing on his own and reading, discovering a love for word puzzles and games.

He started at Hogwarts in September of 2001. The school had recovered from the battles by then, and so it was easy to not think about what had happened here. (He did not know that his aunt had almost died during the battle there, or that she was now a werewolf. His father did not think it was something that he needed to be concerned with.) He was sorted into Hufflepuff, like his father and all of his uncles had been, and he loved being there, making friends and finally getting to learn magic for real. He was disappointed to discover that he really wasn't all that good at wandwork, and his Charms and Transfiguration was average at best. It wasn't until his third year, when they were allowed to start taking elective classes, that he discovered the two subjects that he excelled in: Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. He loved deciphering the diagrams and the ancient scrolls, trying to figure out and translate and interpret the meaning of it all, and to think of practical applications for the two magics that so many devalued, favoring a quick swish-and-flick. That same year he made it onto the Hufflepuff Quidditch team as a Chaser, and discovered how much he loved flying.

Everything was fine until the summer of 2007. He knew that there was tension, that the famous Harry Potter was trying to petition for the Wizarding world to reveal itself to the Muggle world. He didn't see what the big deal was, really, since he had friends who were Muggle-born whose parents were fine with it. After the assassination of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, though, his father felt it best to get the family out of the country for a time, giving everything a chance to settle down. They went to visit his maternal grandparents in France.

Late in the summer, Liam was called back to work, and because it was less than two weeks before school was set to start up again, he took Ash with him. Days later, the Charm Bomb destroyed Hogwarts. Liam and his father went back and forth over what should be done. His mother thought Ash should go back to France, and she would see what she could do about getting him enrolled at Beauxbatons for his final year of school. Ash argued that he wanted to finish with his friends, and he didn't think it would take long for the school to be repaired, with so many wizards going to work on it.

Before a decision could be reached, though, it was made for them. England was sealed off from the rest of the world by an army of ghosts, and Ash and his father were cut off from the rest of their family. Ash thought it would only take a little time before they figured out how to get that sorted, but as time went on and more and more reports came in of strange things happening across the country, he started to think he might not see his mother and sister again for a long time. He could only hope that whatever was happening here wasn't happening in France as well, and he thought perhaps it was better that they weren't here, even if he missed them.

He and his father bonded during that time, with Liam trying to finish out his son's education as best he could in the few hours they had together during the evening. The rest of his time was spent at work, trying to figure out ways to reach the rest of the world. Ash spent a lot of time alone during that year, but his dad came home every evening, so it was all right.

And then in June of 2008, his father didn't come home. It took time for word to get to them that London had sealed itself off, and no one was getting out. He stayed in Oxford for as long as he could, but finally he knew he had to move on, because things were becoming unsafe, and no one knew how long it might be before whatever had happened in London spread to Oxford. He took off, traveling from city to city, doing odd jobs along the way, mostly for room and board, going from one rumored safe place to the next. Sometimes he stayed for a few days, sometimes weeks, but never more than a month or two before picking up and moving on. Most recently, he has heard that York is the safest place to be, and that is where he is headed.
